The Lunar Nodes
Let’s start here. The North and South Nodes of the Moon are mathematical points in the natal chart. They carry a lot of weight and meaning, even though they are not physical astronomical bodies.
The Nodes:
- Illuminate overarching themes of your life’s path
- Uncover unconscious patterns
- Reveal how you can express your light, magic, and path of service
The Technical Stuff.
- The nodes are the two points on the ecliptic where the Moon’s orbital path crosses with the Sun’s path from our perspective on Earth.
- The nodal return happens every 18.5 years. At approximately ages 19, 37, 56, 74, 93
- The nodes are always exactly opposite each other in the natal chart and connected with the cycles of the eclipses.
The Spiritual Meaning of the Nodes
We all radio in here on Earth as a uniquely, differentiated self, we are aware of the physical boundary of our bodies. This plane of consciousness requires us to experience ourselves through a sense of separation from the rest of creation.
Evolutionary astrology recognizes that some of us carry a soul desire to merge with a sense of oneness, this often begins by becoming aware and integrating all the seemingly disparate parts of self. This is followed up by a deep knowing that we are a part of the whole of the consciousness of creation and not separate from it.
Reconciling the paradoxes in being.
So we have two nodes, one called the dragons tail and the other the dragons head. In Vedic astrology, these are considered challenging points. They are in also considered challenging in Western astrology, but to a lesser or different degree.
In Western astrology, the nodes have become a symbol for spiritual growth and soul evolution. These are two placements that point the way to resolving the sense of isolation and a reconnection with the whole.
Work with the nodes can awaken us to our deepest passions and provide a soothing balm to the inevitable pains, grief, and moments of disconnection of human existence. The nodes in astrology provide a roadmap to ignite the soul path one might choose towards profound healing, meaning, and service.
